This town wouldn't be the same without its cab drivers. There's 14000 licenses given out. Compare that to the ~12000 licenses on Manhattan, and you have an idea of how much of a life nerve they are, and how much more they have to struggle to stay in business.

I think, that what I like about them the most is the diversity. You get anything from immigrants, to accountants having a 2nd job to provide for their family, to fellas like this one, who's doing what they always did - drive a taxi.

People like this guy has great stories coming out their sleeeves, and it's all for the narrative. I guess most of the stories aren't even half true, but for some reason, they just have a knack for storytelling. I guess it comes with the territory. And I thank them for it.

I'm always reminded of this great song by Dan Turéll, a famous Danish beatnik poet and author. He wrote a song (or poem, whichever way you wanna go) called "I should've been a cab driver", and it told the story of himself, as a cab driver, and how he would be able to talk about the weather like noone else. I think I've driven with many Dan Turéll's in Dublin, none of them wore black nail polish though.
